There is a silent virtual educational crisis caused by the  2020 pandemic which shifted the environment of education from the classroom to the home. The emptying of schools and the slow return to school has caused a lot of instability in education and the side effects include unstable servers, massive list of links, disruptions in class schedules, lesson plans, attendance numbers, mass emails, phone calls, and technical frustrations in learning in homes and schools across the nation.

A k-3rd grade assessment takes an average time of 28 hours in a single classroom of 25 students a quarter. So what does that mean? This means in one school we lose 168 hours of classroom learning every semester due to required assessments. This also means the other students in the classroom are given “28 hours of busy work,” because of the one on one attention listening to each child read a letter, number, and word for phonemic accuracy requires.

TREE Industries recently had the opportunity to attend and compete in its first hackathon: GlobalHack7. We loved the diversity of the crowd and the levels of competition. The room was packed full of all races, genders, and ages all ready to put their tech hats on, have fun, talk tech, mentor, and compete. It was the meeting of technologies and innovative minds all collected for three straight days of hacking.

Our first day at Global Hack TREE Industries connected with a very skilled python coder and a translator both of whom graduated from Washington University in Saint Louis that joined our team for the competition.

The theme was based around helping all immigrants find resources and feel welcomed, safe, and their information secure when applying for resources. TREE Industries thought what better place to start than in social service departments with a voice that speaks the applicant’s natural language for understanding.

In case you haven't heard, TREE Industries has been developing a smart assistant for education over the last year and a half.  "Ezra EA" to help solve many pain points in the education system, but will first focus on the classroom itself. With teacher's weighed down with many managerial tasks throughout the day it is vitally important to create innovative solutions that reduce these repetitive tasks.

Check out this video where we demonstrate how Ezra EA can take Attendance, and administer a Sight Word Assessment.
